It was in making additions to the online Canadian Virtual War Memorial that Genealogy Club member Lisa Rance chanced upon a fascinating story of a circle of friendships that took place locally, in the First World War period. The story centers on a British teen and his friendship with a world-renowned astronomer and humanitarian John A. Brashear. This inspiring piece of local history should not be forgotten, and Lisa brings a visually-packed slideshow to enjoy.
The OPL’s Genealogy Club meets the third Thursday of each month (except July and August) at 2:00 p.m. Our members have an interest in genealogy and enjoy meeting with other like-minded people, a mix of experienced genealogists and newbies. Each month, a different topic is presented, either by members of the club, or professional genealogists. Meetings are open to all Orillia Public Library cardholders. For more information on this free monthly program, please contact 705-325-2556 or email us.
